DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State outdoor track and field teams competed for the first time this season, taking part in the Aggie Opener at UC Davis on Friday and Saturday. The Hornets combined to win six events and collected 29 top five finishes in the meet.

Men's Track Highlights

• Blaize Holland finished first in the 200 by running 22.06 in his first outdoor 200 with the team.
• Jabari Reynolds was third in the 200 in 22.30 and was fifth in the 100 in a wind-aided 10.93.
• DeVonn Johnson had the best finish among Hornets in the 100 behind a career best 10.91 to place fourth. Johnson was also fifth in the 200 in 22.36.
• Jake Slade finished fifth in the 800 after running 1:59.66.
• The 4x100 relay team of Johnson, Holland, Jonathan Yates and Reynolds finished fist by running 41.52. That time was .22 seconds ahead of second-place UC Davis.
• Nautus Moore accounted for the only other PR by a returner by running 22.63 in the 200.

Women's Track Highlights

• Daysha Ford was first in the 200 behind a personal best time of 25.18.
• The Hornets had three of the top five finishers in the 2K steeplechase with Danielle Gee finishing second in 7:22.26, Tia Oliver placing fourth (7:33.57) and Viviana Valenton finishing fifth (7;36.42).
• Three other returners set PRs in running events comprised fo Gianna Scruggs (100-12.47; 200-26.64); Hailey Rutter (3K-10:17.18); Gee (3K-10:26.41).

Men's Field Highlights

• Evan Stork started 2022 as he finished 2021 as the NCAA qualifier won the hammer with a throw of 211-08.
• George Harris finished third in the shot put, discus and hammer in his first outdoor appearance as a Hornet. Harris had a hammer throw of 177-11 on Friday and had a shot put of 50-10.25 and a discus throw of 156-11 on Saturday.
• Sawyer Howard placed second in the shot put with a best of 51-05.50.
• Mason Mitchell finished fifth in the long jump with a best of 22-05.25.
• John Gibbs was fifth in the pole vault following a clearance of 14-11.00 to set his personal best. Gibbs also tied his PR with a long jump of 20-06.50 and won the triple jump behind an leap of 48-07.25.
• Miles Grant was third in the high jump after clearing 6-06.75.

Women's Field Highlights

• Abby Meder won the discus behind a career best of 141-04. Meder was also second in the shot put
• Erin Whelan was second in the hammer after throwing 163-10.
• Alexia Croffet placed fourth in the long jump with a wind-aided best of 18-01.75. Alexus Surnip also set PR in the event at 17-02.75.
• Freshman Izzi Leonard was fourth in the high jump after clearing 5-03.00.

Sacramento State will host the Hornet Invitational on Saturday, March 19, at Hornet Stadium.
