SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's indoor track & field teams will make their first appearance at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., as they take part in the WSU Open on Friday. The meet is the second indoor competition for the team this season and the its first at the new facility located in downtown Spokane.
Over 30 schools will be represented at the meet, including Eastern Washington, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana and Montana State from the Big Sky Conference. Other notables include Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Oregon State, Utah and Washington State from the Pac-12.
Despite having just one indoor meet under its belt this year, Sacramento State has 13 marks which rank among the top 10 in the Big Sky this season.
- Newcomer Blaize Holland is sixth in the 60 after running an altitude adjusted time of 6.87 at the Lumberjack Team Challenge. Holland is also seventh in the 200 with an adjusted time of 21.91.
- LaTrouchka Duke is third in the 60 in 7.62 seconds and fourth in the 200 in 25.06. Both teams are altitude adjusted.
- Freshman Miles Grant cleared 6-07.00 in the high jump in his first collegiate meet. That mark places him eighth in Big Sky this season.
- Freshman Jayla Flowers is eighth in the women's triple jump with a best of 37-06.00.
- Sawyer Howard set a career best in the shot put with a mark of 53-10.50 which leaves him seventh in the conference.
- Shantel Nnaji is third in the women's shot put with a best of 49-02.50. She is joined in the top 10 by Abby Meder who ranks ninth at 43-04.50.
- Meder is also seventh in the conference in the women's weight throw following a career best of 53-05.50.
- Evan Stork is fifth in the men's weight throw with a toss of 63-00.25.
Sacramento State will have an expanded list of entries for this week's meet with 29 women competing in 45 events. The men will be represented by 18 student-athletes who will compete in 28 events.
The WSU Open starts at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with the men's high jump and women's weight throw. The day will conclude with the men's distance medley relay at 8:45 p.m.
