WEBER STATE USES BIG SECOND HALF TO GET PAST MEN'S BASKETBALL

OGDEN, Utah -- Sacramento State held a one-point lead at the break, but Weber State dominated the second half (31-15) on the way to a 65-50 victory over the Hornets on Thursday evening at the Dee Events Center.

That 15-point margin of victory was the Wildcats' biggest lead of the evening as the game was a single-digit contest the first 30 minutes of clock. Weber State scored 36 of its 65 points in the paint, which included 13 layups and a dunk. The Wildcats shot 57% (25-44) from the field, 40% (6-15) from the 3-point line and 82% (9-11) from the free throw line.

An 8-0 run extended the Wildcats' lead from three points to 56-45 with 10:47 to play. The Hornets would get no closer than within nine points the rest of the way.

Sacramento State dropped its sixth straight while falling to 6-16 overall and 2-13 in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets lose the season series against Weber State as the Wildcats won in Sacramento on Jan. 29. Sacramento State has just five games left in the regular season before the Big Sky Tournament begins on March 9 in Boise.

Weber State improved to 19-8 overall, 12-4 in the Big Sky and 9-4 at home. The Wildcats remain among the Big Sky top three teams.

Sacramento State shot 34% (18-53) from the field, 32% (7-22) from the 3-point line and 78% (7-9) from the charity stripe. The Hornets were outrebounded, 34-22, but did have 10 offensive boards resulting in 15 second chance points. Sacramento State forced 18 Weber State turnovers, resulting in 15 points off those miscues.

The Hornet combination of William FitzPatrick (17) and Bryce Fowler (15) combined for 32 points, as no other Sacramento State player scored more than six. FitzPatrick's 17 points were a season high and he finished 4-for-11 from the 3-point line and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Fowler, who also had four rebounds and a pair of assists, has scored at least 15 points in four straight, and five of the last six games.

Cameron Wilbon had six points and eight rebounds, seven of which were on the offensive glass. Zach Chappell had five points, two assists and two steals, and both Hugo Clarkin and Rick Barros III had three points. Jonathan Komagum finished with five rebounds.

Weber State had four players in double figures, led by Koby McEwen's 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Dillon Jones' 12 points and 11 boards.

The Hornets are back in action this Saturday at Idaho State. Tip is 5 p.m. PST.
