MEN'S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT VISIT STOCKTON PACIFIC INVITATIONAL

Bell Records Career 54-Hole Best With Three Rounds Of Par Or Better

STOCKTON, Calif. — Riley Bell and Zach Mate each shot even par rounds of 71 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team in the final round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Saturday at Stockton Country Club. The Hornets totaled 277-282-287-846 during the tournament to finish in eighth place.

Bell set his career 54-hole best during the week by shooting 69-68-71-208. On Saturday, He charged out of the gates with an eagle on the 520-yard, par-5 second hole. However, bogeys on Nos. 3 and 8 took him back to even before he birdied the par-4 ninth and 10th holes. Bell had bogeys on the par-4 12th and par-5 14th to get back to even and ended with four straight pars.

Mate overcame a sluggish start to his round to also finish even. He was 3-over at the midway point of his round with a birdie on No. 2 and four bogeys over the front nine. He began the backside of the course with two pars and then birdied the Par-4 12th and 13th and the par-5 14th to get back to even. The freshman followed with four straight pars to finish tied for 30th at 69-73-71-213.

Casey Leebrick had the second best finish on the team with a tie for 22nd place. Leebrick was 1-over on Saturday and totaled 69-70–72-211. He was even on the front nine with a pair of birdies and bogeys. Leebrick added a birdie on the par-4 10th to get to 1-under and remained there through No. 16 with a birdie, four pars and a bogey. His last two holes were both bogeys.

Sacramento State also counted a round of 73 from Jeffrey Perry on Saturday. Perry was 1-over at the midway point of his round with a birdie on the par-5 second and bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4. He returned to red numbers with birdies on the par-4 10th and par-3 11th. However, he had three bogeys over his final four holes to end the day at 2-over.

Keaton Sutherland, who was competing as an individual, shot 71 to match the lowest round by a Hornet during the day. Sutherland started on the 10th hole and had a birdie and two bogeys over his first nine holes. He rose to 2-over following a bogey on the par-4 fourth but rallied with birdies on the par-4 seventh and par-3 eighth.

Grand Canyon won the team title by six strokes with a total of 273-277-280-830. The Lopes were followed in the top five by UC Irvine (836), Washington State (836), San Jose State (839) and George Washington (839).

Jakoub Hrinda of George Washington was the medalist at 14-under par (70-62-67-199).

Sacramento State will close its fall schedule at the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills GC on Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
