BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Sacramento State women's golf team jumped five spots to finish tied for fourth place at the Dale McNamara Invitational on Tuesday at Cedar Ridge CC. The Hornets were 4-under par as team during the round and one of just two schools to finish in the red during the day.
Jennifer Koga led Sacramento State with 4-under par round of 68 and finished tied for 12th with rounds of 76-75-68-219. Koga began her third round on No. 9 and parred her first three holes. Her first birdie came on the par-4 12th and was immediately followed by her only bogey of the day. After four straight pars, Koga ran off three consecutive birdies on Nos. 18-2 to get to 3-under on the day. She ended her round with four more pars, a birdie on the par-4 seventh and another par on No. 8.
Sienna Lyford ranked second on the team during the round with a 1-under par score of 71. Lyford started with a bogey on the par-4 10th but returned to even with a birdie on the par-3 13th and moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-5 17th. She played the front side of the course at even with a bogey on the par-3 second and a birdie on the par-4 seventh. Her 54-hole total of 74-78-71-223 tied her for 22nd place.
Ella Kraft wrapped up the tournament with an even par round of 72 and tied for 20th place. Kraft was 1-over through her first three holes and remained there after five consecutive pars. She then birdied the par-5 17th, par-4 18th and par-3 second to get to 2-under. She had bogeys on the par-4 fourth and seventh holes as well as four pars over her last six holes.
Tess Blair and
Caitlin Maurice each shot 73 on Tuesday. Blair finished tied for 22nd at 77-73-73-223 while Maurice shot 76-78-73-227 to tie for 32nd. Blair was 3-over par through her first seven holes but played her final 11 at 2-under. She had birdies on the par-4 16th and par-5 17th before parring her final 10 holes.
Maurice had her best round of the tournament with four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Sneha Sharan, who was competing as an individual, matched Maurice's total to tie for 32nd. She shot 77 on Tuesday with 12 pars and five bogeys.
Host Tulsa withstood a strong charge from Nebraska to win the team title. The Golden Hurricane finished at 4-over par as a team to win by one stroke. Nebraska was 8-under during the final round and also had the medalist in Miu Takahashi (71-73-69-213).
Sacramento State will next compete at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii, on Oct. 24-26.
