LYFORD, SHARAN POST CAREER BESTS IN SECOND ROUND OF EVIE ODOM INVITATIONAL

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Sacramento State women's golf team waited out tropical storm Ian and were rewarded with a strong performance during the second round of the Evie Odom Invitational on Saturday at Princess Anne Country Club. The Hornets completed the suspended first round and then finished 1-under par during the second round of the tournament to move into third place. The team will conclude the tournament with a single round on Sunday.

Sienna Lyford led the team with a 3-under par round of 67 which moved her into a tie for 13th place overall. The score was one stroke better than her previous best of 68 set at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic while competing for UC Irvine in 2018. On Saturday, Lyford started with a bogey on the par-3 10th but played her next nine holes at 2-under with birdies on the par-4 13th and 14th. Her final bogey came on the par-4 first hole which returned her to even until birdies on the par-4 fifth, par-5 sixth and eighth completed her round.

Tess Blair shot 70 to finish even during the second round. Blair was 1-under through her first four holes with birdies on the par-5 10th and par-4 12th surrounding a bogey on No. 11. She eventually rose to 1-over after bogeys on Nos. 17 and 2 but dropped back to even with a birdie on the par-4 third before ending with five consecutive pars.

Jennifer Koga and Caitlin Maurice shot 71 during the second round to complete the team total. Maurice is tied with Blair for 16th place while Koga is tied for 43rd. On Saturday, Koga had a team high six birdies but also had three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. Maurice finished the round with four birdies and five bogeys.

Ella Kraft is tied for 38th after a second-round score of 75. Kraft had one birdie, two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.

Sneha Sharan, who's competing as an individual, posted a career best score of 68. Sharan started on the 18th with a bogey and she remained even at the midway point of her round with a birdie on the par-4 fifth and a bogey on the par-5 eighth. Sharan charged through her remaining eight holes with birdies on Nos. 10, 14, 15 and 16 before closing with a bogey.

College of Charleston hold a nine-stroke lead and are 5-over par as a team. Penn State stands at 14-over and is in second while the Hornets (15-over) are followed by East Carolina and Princeton who are tied for fourth at 16-over.

The final round will begin at 6:30 a.m. PT on Sunday. Sacramento State will be paired with College of Charleston and Penn State.
