WOMEN'S GOLF, KOGA MOVE INTO TOP SPOTS DURING SECOND ROUND OF COUER D'ALENE COLLEGIATE

COUER D'ALENE, Idaho — Led by a career best 67 from sophomore Jennifer Koga, the Sacramento State women's golf team concluded the second day of the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate in a tie for first place. The Hornets totaled 289 during the second round on Monday for the lowest score recorded by any team in the field and are tied with Oral Roberts at 18-over par heading into the final round.

Koga took sole possession of the individual leaderboard with a 4-under par round. She opened play on the fifth hole and parred her first seven holes before birdies on the par-3 12th and par-4 13th. She moved to 3-under with a birdie on the par-5 15th and ended her round with a birdie on the par-4 fourth. Overall, Koga had four birdies and 14 pars during her round. She holds a 1-shot advantage over four golfers who are tied for second place.

Tess Blair also ended the day in the red and is tied for sixth, two shots behind Koga. Blair started on the fourth hole and parred her first eight holes of the day. She bogeyed the par-3 12th before birdies on the par-4 13th and par-3 14th brought her back to 1-under. After three pars, she bogeyed the par-4 18th. Back on the front side the course she had pars on both sides of a bogey on the par-4 second to close her round.

Sneha Sharan ranked third on the team and is now tied for 33rd place after shooting 75. Sharan was 6-over through 10 holes but surged over her final eight holes to end the round at 4-over. She had a double-bogey on the par-5 ninth and added bogeys on Nos. 10, 13, 14 and 15 before birdies on the par-4 16th and 18th. She later bogeyed the par-4 second but immediately responded with a birdie on the par-3 third and wrapped up play with two pars.

Sydney Smith and Caitlin Maurice each shot 77 in the second round. Smith, who led the team in the first round, had two birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey on Monday. Maurice had a birdie, four bogeys and a triple bogey.

The third round will have a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets will be paired with Oral Roberts and Santa Clara.
