FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Sacramento State men's golf team is just six strokes off the lead following the first two rounds of the Ram Masters Invitational at a windy Fort Collins Country Club on Monday.
The Hornets shot 316-312-626 and are tied for seventh place heading into the final round. Northern Colorado took the lead after the first round and totaled 313-309-622 during the day to lead Pacific by one stroke and Grand Canyon by two. Overall, nine teams are within 10 shots of the lead.
Ethan Davidson is tied for second place with a pair of 74s on the par-70 course. Davidson started the day with a bogey on the par-4 12th hole but worked his way to 1-under with birdies on the par-3 14th and par-5 15th. After a bogey on No. 17, he moved to 2-under with birdies on the par-5 first and par-4 third hole. From there, Davidson played his final eight holes at 7-over par with five bogeys and a double bogey. In the second round, Davidson was 1-over through seven holes but bogeyed Nos. 1-3. After three pars, he birdied the par-5 seventh but later added a bogey on the par-3 ninth.
Blaze Akana ranks second on the team and is tied for 18th after shooting 80-76-156. Akana had one birdie, nine bogeys and a double bogey in the first round. He was able to trim four shots off that total in the second round with two birdies and eight bogeys.
Casey Leebrick is tied fro 34th at 71-79-160. He had a birdie, eight bogeys and two double bogeys in the morning before carding seven bogeys and a double bogey in the afternoon.
Joe Fowler finished four strokes behind Leebrick and is tied for 53rd. Fowler had one birdie, eight bogeys and two doubles in the first round. His second round was made up of two birdies, 11. Bogeys and two double bogeys.
Riley Bell rounded out the lineup by shooting 86-87-173.
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a single round. Sacramento State will go off the first hole beginning at 7:16 a.m. PT.
