Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Ege Tomey picked up her second consecutive win at the number two singles position on Sunday, but the Hornets dropped a morning matchup with the visiting CSUN Matadors, 6-1.
With the loss, Sacramento State fell to 1-8 overall. CSUN improved to 5-2 overall with the win.
Tomey's win came in straight sets, a strong 6-1, 6-4 win against CSUN's Jolene Coetzee. The senior has now won back-to-back matches while playing at the number two singles position, both in straight sets. She is 2-6 overall in singles play, but 2-1 at number two.
Unfortunately, Tomey's win wasn't enough on Sunday. The Hornets and Matadors opened the action by splitting the first two doubles matches of the morning before CSUN won the third in a battle, 7-5, to clinch the day's first point.
From there, Sacramento State fell match-by-match as CSUN picked up points with wins at Nos. 3, 1, and 2 to clinch the match.
At the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, Sacramento State's Tsveti Yotova (lost, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3) and Paige Alter (lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-0) both went to three sets after winning the first, respectively. At No. 6, Grace Dodd dropped a third set tiebreaker, 10-4.

Sunday's match closed out a stretch of five home matches in the last six for the Hornets. Up next is three on the road, including a March 7 doubleheader against Air Force and Northern Colorado.
