MEN'S TENNIS FALLS AT HOME TO YALE, 4-3

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State picked up singles wins from Hermont Legaspi, Johannes Gjerdaker and Louis Chabut, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Yale on Friday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts.

Yale improved to 9-4 with the victory while the Hornets dropped to 4-8. Three of the Hornets' last five losses have come via 4-3 scores. Sacramento State dropped the doubles point, which has proven to be a very valuable piece of the puzzle when it comes to Hornet Tennis. Sacramento State is now 0-7 when it drops the doubles point, and 4-1 when winning the doubles point.

Today, Yale started things by getting wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to jump out to 1-0 victory. That proved to be a very valuable doubles point as the two teams split the six singles matches.

Picking up wins for the Hornets in singles play were Legaspi at No. 3 (6-4, 7-5), Gjerdaker at No. 4 (5-7, 6-4, 6-3) and Chabut (6-7, 6-3, 10-4) at No. 5. Yale already had the necessary four points for the victory before Gjerdaker and Chabut won their matches.

Gjerdaker, a true freshman, continues to play great tennis as he has now won seven straight singles matches. The Stavanger, Norway, native is 8-3 in singles play this year, including a 4-2 record at No. 4 and 4-1 at No. 5.

The Hornets wrap up their five-match homestead on Sunday when they host Portland at 1 p.m.
