CARR, PATEL SHOOT EVEN PAR IN SECOND ROUND OF BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIP

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Ash Patel and Jeff Carr each shot 72 to lead Sacramento State in the second round of the Big Sky Conference Men's Golf Championship on Saturday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Hornets remained in fourth place after shooting 294 in the second round.

Patel reached his total with a steady round which included a pair of pars and bogeys. The senior played both sides of the course even, he had a bogey on the par-3 fourth and a birdie on the par-5 fifth on his first nine holes. He started the back nine with a bogey on the par-4 10th but returned to even after a birdie on the par-5 13th.

Carr rallied with three birdies over his final four holes to reach 72. The freshman bogeyed two of his first three holes and eventually was 3-over through 11. He held there with pars on his next three holes and began his comeback with a birdie on the par-4 15th. A birdie on the par-5 16th dropped him to 1-over and he closed with a birdie on the par-4 18th.

Zach Libertare joined Patel and Carr in a tie for 13th place in the tournament with a two-round total of 148. Liberatore shot 75 on Saturday after leading the team with a 73 on Friday. The senior started slowly with four bogeys on the first five holes. He bounced back with three birdies (Nos. 6, 7 and 10) on his next five holes. However, three additional bogeys followed before a birdie on the 18th.

Eric Olsem also shot 75 in the second round and is tied for 18th place overall. Olsem was even on the front nine with a birdie on the first and a bogey on No. 7. He had birdies on the par-5 13th and par-4 18th on the back nine but also had a double bogey on the 11th and a triple bogey on No. 16.

Wonje Choi shot 77 and is tied for 21st. Choi was 3-over at the turn with a birdie on the the par-4 sixth and four bogeys. His round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 13th and he also had four bogeys.

Northern Colorado shot 4-under as a team in the second round and dropped to 6-under overall to take the team lead. The Bears are now five strokes ahead of Southern Utah and have a 15-stroke advantage of third-place Weber State.

Part of UNC's success was the play of Andrew Romano who led all players with a 5-under par round of 67. Romano leads Southern Utah's Fidel Concepcion and Jake Vincent by three strokes.

The Big Sky Championship concludes on Sunday at 7 a.m. The Hornets will be paired with Bighamton and Idaho beginning at 7:45 a.m. The team champion will earn an automatic berth to an NCAA regional.
