Box Score 2 SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State earned both doubles points and dropped just one singles match in defeating Northern Colorado, 6-1, and North Dakota, 7-0, in a pair of Big Sky matches on campus Saturday.
Sacramento State (8-10, 6-2 Big Sky) totaled 12 straight-set singles wins and won four of six doubles matches in sweeping the double header. The Hornets improved to 7-5 at home this season with three home matches remaining, including a non-conference meeting with Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. Sunday.
In their first match of the day the Hornets had to battle for the doubles point as the teams split the first two spots but the tandem of redshirt freshman Carolina Chernyetsky and sophomore Sofia Wicker earned a 6-0 sweep at No. 3.
Wicker dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles and freshman Karina Vyrlan cruised past Beth Coton, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Sacramento State clinched the team win at No. 6 as freshman Sofia Gulnova beat Remi Immler, 6-0, 6-2.
Junior Ana Loaiza Esquivias remained undefeated in Big Sky singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 1 match. Northern Colorado (6-7, 3-4 Big Sky) did get a three-set win at No. 3 but Chernyetsky pulled out a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3) win at No. 5.
North Dakota (7-13, 4-4 Big Sky) earned its only win of the match in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles but that was only after Gulnova and Loaiza Esquivias and the pair of Chernyetsky and Wicker both won 6-1 at No. 1 and 3, respectively.
At No. 1 singles Loaiza Esquivias was perfect with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Mimi Yunker. Senior Andie Mouzes also had a clean sweep at No. 4, beating Sophie Allen-Fisher 6-0, 6-0. Chernyetsky clinched the Hornet victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Gulnova won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Vyrlan completed the Hornet sweep winning 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2. Sacramento State recorded its second 7-0 win this season.
