MARICOPA, Ariz. — The Sacramento State women's golf team tied for seventh place after shooting303 during the final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes GC. The Hornets completed the three-round event with a total of 302-295-303-900.
Senior Rockelle Sande led the team on Tuesday with a 1-over par round of 73. Sande started with a bogey on the par-3 sixth but played the next 14 holes at 3-under par with birdies on the par-3 11th and par-4 14th, 15th and 2nd with only one bogey. However, after a par, Sande triple bogeyed the par-3 fourth to finish at 73. Overall, she shot 76-76-73-225 and tied for 26th.
Freshman Julia Becker ranked second on the team during the round with a 75 and tied for 29th at 75-76-75-226. The 54-hole total was the second best for Becker this season. She was 4-over through her first seven holes of the third round before birdies on the par-4 12th and par-5 16th. Becker then bogeyed the par-4 18th and parred her final five holes.
Chloe Bartek had the best individual finish on the team, trying for 15th place with rounds of 75-71-76-222. The junior started with a birdie on No. 3 but found herself at 5-over after six bogeys and nine pars. Bartek wrapped up her round with a par on No. 2 and a birdie on the par-5 third.
Katie Dunaway shot 78-72-79-229 to tie for 43rd. Her third round was comprised of two birdies (Nos. 2 and 13), five bogeys and two double bogeys. Fellow sophomore Astha Madan tied for 66th at 76-78-80-234. Madan had six bogeys and a double bogey during the third round.
Idaho maintained its lead from the first day to win the tournament by eight strokes over Santa Clara. The Vandals totaled 291-291-291-873.
Santa Clara's Annie Freman was the medalist and finished at 7-under par at 70-70-67-207.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Championships in Boulder City, Nev., on April 18-20.
