WOMEN'S GOLF OPENS PLAY AT FRESNO STATE CLASSIC

FRESNO, Calif. — Chloe Bartek led the Sacramento State women's golf team in a rain-shortened first day of the Fresno State Classic on Monday at San Joaquin Country Club. The tournament was scheduled for 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 on Tuesday. However, morning rains forced a switch to a single round both days.

The Hornets struggled during the opening day and are tied for 12th out of 14 teams after shooting 314. Host Fresno State leads by seven strokes over Boise State (286-293). Santa Clara (295), New Mexico State (298) and Georgetown (299) complete the top five.

Bartek is tied for 27th and is nine strokes off the pace of Santa Clara's Annie Freman for the individual lead. Bartek's opening round opened with a pair on the ninth hole but she was 2-over following bogeys on the par-3 11th and par-4 13th. Her first of three birdies came on the par-4 15th but bogeys on Nos. 17, 1 and 2 jumped her to 4-over. She added birdies on the par-3 fourth and par-4 sixth but double bogeyed the par-4 fifth to end her day at 4-over.

Sophomore Astha Madan and freshman Julia Becker recorded a rounds of 79 and are tied for 54th. Madan did not have a birdie during the day and finished with 11 pars and seven bogeys. Becker was 2-over through her first nine holes and then birdied the par-5 third. From there, she had four bogeys and a double bogey over her final eight holes.

Rockelle Sande contributed an 80 after a round which featured a birdie on the par-5 third, seven bogeys and a double bogey. Katie Dunaway is tied for 72nd after shooting 81. Dunaway had a birdie on the par-4 17th, five bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey.
