WOMEN'S GOLF BATTLES THROUGH OPENING DAY OF SACRAMENTO STATE INVIT.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team sits in sixth place following the first two rounds of the Sacramento State Invitational on Monday. The tournament, which was played at Sierra View Country Club, will conclude with the third round on Tuesday morning.

The Hornets, who won the event last season, battled the elements for much of the opening day. Gusty winds in the opening round turned to rain in the afternoon and eventually led to a 45-minute delay. Once teams returned to the course, it created a sprint towards the finish to conclude before darkness.

San Francisco and Santa Clara pulled ahead through the first two rounds. The Dons shot 296-298-594 and lead the Broncos by seven strokes. USF was paced by Alison Lillie (73-72-145) and Vanessa Ha (74-74-146) who own the top two individual scores.

Sacramento State counted two rounds of 75 and a round of 76 in the morning. Rockelle Sande and Julia Becker tied for the team lead. Sande did not card a birdie in the round but finished with 15 pars and three bogeys. Becker had three birdies on the back nine (Nos. 10, 14 and 18) but added four bogeys over her first eight holes and six bogeys for the round.

Astha Madan played her first nine holes even par but eventually stood at 5-over following five bogeys on the first seven holes of the back nine. Madan rallied for a birdie on the par-3 17th before parring No. 18. The final score came from Katie Dunaway who shot 81. The sophomore's first round featured a birdie, six bogeys and a two double bogeys.

In the afternoon, Madan led the team with a 75 which included just three bogeys and 15 pars. Junior Chloe Bartek bounced back from an 83 in the morning to shoot 76. Bartek was 4-over at the midway point before playing her final nine holes even with three birdies and three bogeys.

Sande got off to a quick start in the second round and was 4-under par after birdies on the par-5 fourth and par-3 fifth and an eagle on the 344-yard par-4 sixth. However, she was 5-over after playing holes Nos. 8-14 at 9-over par a par, three bogeys and three double bogeys. She closed with a birdie, two pars and a bogey over he final four holes.

Madan is tied for eight place with a first day total of 76-75-151. Sande is one stroke back and tied for 13th overall. Becker is tied for 27th after shooting 75-80-155 and Bartek is tied for 43rd at 83-76-159. Dunaway completes the lineup with rounds of 81-83-164 which ties her for 64th place.

The third round begins at 7:45 on Tuesday and is free to the public. Sacramento State tees off at 8:28 a.m.
