MADAN SPARKS WOMEN'S GOLF WITH 73 IN SECOND ROUND

OAHU, Hawaii — Sophomore Astha Madan's 1-over par round of 73 was the best for Sacramento State during the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Wednesday. The Hornets shot 301 as a team and are in seventh place heading into the final round on Thursday.

Madan started her round with a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole. Five consecutive pars were followed by a bogey on the par-4 10th and and par-3 12th. She returned to even with a birdie on the par-3 17th and remained there until a bogey on the par-5 third (her final hole). Overall, Madan has shot 76-73-149 and is tied for 15th.

Senior Rockelle Sande is also tied for 15th after shooting 74-75-149. Sande had three birdies on Wednesday but also had two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. Sande opened with a birdie and followed with a bogey on the par-5 third and birdie on the par-4 fourth. She moved into the red with a birdie on the par-4 seventh but immediately double bogeyed the par-4 eighth. A second double bogey on the 10th moved her to 3-over par. Sande settled down from there, playing her final 10 holes at even par with a birdie on the par-5 11th and a bogey on the par-4 18th.

Chloe Bartek also shot 75 during the second round and is tied for 32nd overall at 78-75-153. Bartek was even through nine holes with a bogey on No. 9 and a birdie on the par-5 11th during that stretch. She played her final nine holes at 3-over par with two bogeys and a double bogey coming before a birdie on the par-4 fourth to end her day.

After tying for the team lead with a 74 on Tuesday, Katie Dunaway shot 79 during the second round and is tied for 32nd. Dunaway started on the first hole and parred her first four holes of the day. She then bogeyed three of the next four and finished the round with seven bogeys.

Freshman Julia Becker stands at 75-78-153 and is also tied for 32nd. Becker had birdies on the par-4 fourth and par-5 11th but also had four bogeys and two double bogeys in her round.

Natalie Bodnar followed her 74 in the first round with an 83 in the second. Bodnar had nine bogeys and a double bogey during the second round.

BYU, which entered the tournament ranked 34th in the nation, took the team lead after finishing 1-over par during the second round. The Cougars have totaled 295-289-584 and hold an eight-stroke lead over Mississippi and New Mexico State. The Hornets stand at 299-301-600.

Individually, BYU's Rose Huang and Brooklyn Hocker are tied for the lead with each totaling 141. Huang shot 69 on Tuesday a day after Hocker recorded a 68.
