WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT HARBOTTLE INVITATIONAL

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Sophomore Astha Madan shot 75 during the final round and finished with the lowest 54-hole score for Sacramento State at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational on Tuesday at Tacoma Golf & Country Club.

The Hornets finished in eighth place with a total of 314-309-312-935. The team ranked third among the six Big Sky Conference teams in the 16-team field. Washington extended its lead to win the team title by 33 strokes. The Huskies finished at 1-over par (865) and were followed by Idaho (895), Gonzaga (901), Cal Poly (908) and host Seattle (915) in the top five.

Madan tied for 28th after shooting 80-77-75-232. During the final round, Madan was 5-over through her first eight holes following three bogeys and a double bogey. She began trimming that score with a birdie on the par-5 18th and added a birdie on the par-4 fourth to play her final 10 holes at 2-under.

Chloe Bartek and Katie Dunaway, who posted the low rounds on the team during the opening day of tournament, tied for 36th place. Bartek shot 78 in the third round while Dunaway added an 81. Both totaled 234. Bartek's round started with four bogeys over her first nine holes. She then birdied the par-5 16th but bogeyed the par-5 18th. Three bogeys on holes Nos. 2-4 took her to 7-over before she ended the day with a birdie on the par-3 fifth. Dunaway was not able to overcome a slow start which had her at 4-over through four holes. During the round, she had seven bogeys and a double bogey.

Freshman Julia Becker shot 78 to account for the other score in the team total. Becker started the round with a birdie on the par-5 ninth but found her self 3-over through her first nine holes. A birdie on the par-4 18th earned her s stroke back but she later posted two bogeys and a double bogey. For the tournament, Becker tied for 57th at 82-81-78-241.

Senior Rockelle Sande tied for 53rd with rounds of 80-77-83-240. Her third round consisted of three birdies, four bogeys, a double bogey, a triple bogey and a quadruple bogey.

Sacramento State will close the fall portion of its schedule at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Oct. 20-22 in Oahu, Hawaii.
