WOMEN’S TENNIS WELCOMES RUSSIA’S SEDOVA FOR 2026-27

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State head women's tennis coach Sophie Breault welcomed another new face to the Hornets' roster, gaining a commitment from Russia's Viktoriia Sedova for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.

"We are thrilled to welcome Viktoriia to our team," Breault said. "She is an aggressive competitor with an outstanding doubles game and tremendous potential for growth. We are excited to help develop her game and see her continue to improve within our program. She will make an immediate impact on our team as we pursue our goal of winning the Big West Conference championship."

A native of Kazan, Russia, Sedova attended the Gymnasium ELLADA in Moscow and is a transfer from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi — the same school that gave Sacramento State Palina Saulevich. Sedova joined the Islanders in time for the spring championship season after reaching as high as No. 450 in the ITF Junior world rankings and posting a UTR of 8.8 prior to joining the squad.

She started her collegiate career with a 4-1 record in limited singles play at the start of the spring season, spending time at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi lineup. However, it was in doubles where she shined for the Islanders, finishing 13-5 alongside three different partners with 10 of those wins coming at the No. 2 position with teammate Adriana Jimenez Casado.

Sedova finished with an 11-5 mark at the No. 2 spot and was 2-0 at No. 3, winning her first seven doubles contests and finishing 6-2 in her final eight matches of the year.

Outside of her collegiate competition In 2025, she finished with a 21-8 record in various tournaments around the world, including reaching the finals of a J60 doubles and a J100 singles tournament in Kyrgyzstan in back-to-back weeks. She also reached the doubles finals of back-to-back tournaments in South Africa and won doubles titles on clay in Tehran, Iran, in September of 2024 and a hard court title in Bloemfontein, South Africa, in early February of 2025.

In singles, she reached a number of semifinal rounds and claimed a championship in 2023 in a J30 tournament in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Playing tennis since she was five years old, Sedova played with the Kazan Tennis Academy from 2018-26, helping them to a 2025 U19 Russian Team Championship and finishing third at the 2024 U17 Russian Team Championships.

Sedova becomes the third student-athlete to join the Hornet roster for 2026-27 following the commitments from South Africa's Jessica Schilz and Italy's Francesca De Matteo.
