WOMEN’S TENNIS GAINS FIFTH COMMITMENT FROM KAZAKHSTAN’S DASHA SAVINA

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's tennis program continued to add to its roster prior to the 2026-27 campaign, gaining a commitment from Kazakhstan's Dasha Savina, Head Coach Sophie Breault announced on Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dasha to our Hornet family and excited about the impact she will have on our program both on and off the court," Breault said. "She is such a competitive player and person and she will work hard to reach her highest potential. Her work ethic, aggressive game style and mindset fit perfectly into our championship culture. We can't wait to help her develop and reach her goals."

Savina, who originally committed to Eastern Michigan before a coaching change, is the fifth international commitment for the Hornets ahead of the 2026-27 season as Sacramento State transitions to the Big West Conference after winning two of the last three Big Sky Conference regular season crowns and the last three Big Sky Tournament titles.

She joins Belgium's Nel Van Hout, South Africa's Jessica Schilz, Italy's Francesca De Matteo, and Russia's Viktoriia Sedova.

"Joining the Hornet family is the next step towards my biggest dream - competing at the highest level," Savina said. "I chose Sacramento State because I believe this team and coaches Sophie and Sonia will push me to become a better version of myself."

A native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Savina has climbed as high as No. 412 in the International Tennis Federation rankings in March of 2026, and is ranked No. 554 in the world as of late May. Her most recent international results include a singles semifinal appearance at a J100 event in Chisinau, Moldova, a singles championship and a runner-up finish at back-to-back J30 events in Yerevan, Armenia, and another runner-up singles finish at a J60 tournament in Telavi, Georgia.

In doubles, she also reached the semifinals a week after making a finals appearance at back-to-back J30 tournaments in Armenia in June of last year.
