WOMEN’S TENNIS RECRUITING CLASS AMONG TOP MID-MAJOR PROGRAMS IN THE NATION

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the third time in the last four seasons, the Sacramento State women's tennis recruiting class has been named among the top mid-major programs in the nation according to the website TennisRecruiting.net, standing No. 12 in the country according to the organization.

That ranking is the best in program history after the Hornets made their debut at No. 16 in 2023 and stood No. 18 in the country in 2025. Sacramento State, which was one of five California programs in this year's top 25, was among those schools receiving votes in 2024.

The mid-major rankings include all colleges in all divisions except for those in the five so-called "power" conferences — the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Ivy League, and SEC. The rankings do not consider incoming transfer students or players who competed at colleges in 2025-26.

Sacramento State has welcomed five new faces to the fold for the upcoming 2026-27 season, which will see the Hornets join the Big West Conference after spending the last 30 years as a member of the Big Sky Conference. Last year, Sacramento State won its second league regular season title in the last three years and claimed its third-straight conference tournament title.

All told, the Hornets won or shared 14 regular season titles and 16 tournament titles during their time in the Big Sky — both totals the most in the history of the conference.

South Africa's Jessica Schilz, who has a UTR of 9.80, and Italy's Francesca De Matteo were the first two commitments for Sacramento State and were followed by a pair of transfers in Russia's Viktoriia Sedova, who played last year at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Belgium's Nel Van Hout, who is the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year while at Milwaukee in 2025-26.

The Hornets then added a fifth newcomer in Kazakhstan's Dasha Savina, who was a recent commit at Eastern Michigan before a coaching change and was ranked as high as No. 412 in the world in the International Tennis Federation's rankings back in March.
