ATHENS, Ga./CLOVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams made their final preparations for the upcoming Big Sky Outdoor Championships as the team completed in a pair of meets on Saturday. Four Hornet student-athletes traveled to Georgia for the Torrin Lawrence Memorial while the majority of the team competed at the Fresno State Invitational.

Sacramento State accounted for one event title, 20 top-five showings and one school top 10 performance during the day.

The Hornets will next compete at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in Portland, Ore., from May 13-16.

Men's Track Highlights
- Brandon Moreno finished in first place at the Fresno State Invitational in the men's 800 and bettered his fourth-place standing in school history. Moreno ran 1:49.21 to take a tenth of a second off his previous best. The time was 1.73 seconds clear of the second-place finisher. Cooper Love was sixth in 1:53.28 while Thomas Rasner used a PR of 1:54.39 to place seventh.
- Jaden Thompson led the team in the 100 and 200. Thompson finished third in the 100 in 10.55 and was 11th overall in the 200 (21.55).
- Malachi Cox paced three Sacramento State runners in the 400. Cox was third in 48.33 while Logan Borg was sixth and Andrew Abello was seventh with a PR of 49.13.
- Blake Gross was second in the 400-hurdles after a career-best time of 53.29 while his twin brother, Brock Gross ran 54.27 to take third.
- The men's 4x400 team placed third in 3:20.49.
- Gianni Miles took fifth place at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial in 100. Lawrence ran 10.41 which was a tenth of a second off his season best.

Women's Track Highlights
- Jayla Cigar-Dingle just missed moving into the top 10 in the women's 200. Cigar-Dingle ran 24.27 to take sixth place in a fast 200 and was .01 seconds out of the school record book.
- Lilly Escorcia and Sophia Dudley each set PRs in the women's 800 and finished among the top 10. Escorcia posted a time of 2:10.97 to place fifth while Dudley ran 2:14.21 to finish ninth.
- Four Hornets were among the top eighth in the 1500. The quartet was led by Ashley Busienei who took third place in 4:36.57. Dakota Gibson was fourth (4:40.40), Marina Lipary was sixth (PR, 4:42.37) and Kate Sanders eighth (4:43.61).
- Ava Fitzgerald was the lone women's entry for the team at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial where she ran 13.77 in the 100-hurdles to place 10th.

- Blake DaQuino cleared a career-best 5-05.25 to finish in third place in the high jump.
- Emmanuel Akutey was fifth in the shot put with a long of 49-08.25.
- Jamar Andrews, Jr. had a long of 49-01.75 to take seventh in the triple jump at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial.

Women's Field Highlights
- Hope Gordon took second place in the shot put with a best of 47-02.25 to set her career best. Gordon was followed by Galadriel Mellion (4th, 43-11.25) and Asha Abubakari (5th, PR, 43-06.00).
- Abubakari and Mellion returned to the top five in the discus. Abubakari was second at 161-04 while Mellion was fourth at 155-07.
- Indiana Davis used a PR of 5-07.75 in the high jump to take third place. Her mark left her just a quarter-inch out of the school top 10. Chandler Miller also set a season best with a successful attempt at 5-05.75.
