SPARKS, Nev. — The Sacramento State track and field teams had their lightest day of the three-day Wolf Pack Classic and Combined but it did not prohibit the Hornets from recording a pair of event victories and three school top 10 marks on Saturday.
Â
The first race of the day was the women's 60-hurdles qualifying which saw
Syniah Beverley run a then-career best 8.43 to earn the top seed into the finals. Once there, senior Ava Fitgerald won the race in 8.39 seconds while Beverley lowered her PR to 8.39 to move into third place in school history.
Â
In the women's 60-meter dash, all three Sacramento State entries either set or tied their career bests.
Victoria Chatter matched her previous, which ranks 10
th in program history, in 7.63. Beverley ran 7.66 and S'yniah Cade 7.68.
Â
The men also had a 1-2 finish of their own as
Jamar Andrews, Jr. and
Kellan Quinley took the top two spots in the triple jump. Andrews finished with a best of 49-09.25 while Quinley's longest attempt was 48-00.50.
Â
The day concluded with the men's 4x400 team of
Malachi Cox,
Nathan Rider,
Ife Orekoya and
Logan Borg running 3:13.73 to finish in second place overall and run the third-fastest time in Sacramento State history. The time was the best by a Hornet team since the school record of 3:13.37 was set in 2015.
Â
Sacramento State will split its team next weekend between the Husky Classic in Seattle and the Don Kirby Elite in New Mexico. The meets will be the final tune-ups for the team prior to the Big Sky Indoor Championships.
