Â
Sacramento State will be well represented in the multis with freshman
Merle Weber in the pentathlon and
Brock Gross,
Blake Gross and
Cole Oliver in the heptathlon. Weber has scored 3,671 points this season which ranks third in the Big Sky.
Brock Gross is second in the conference with 5,164 points while
Blake Gross is fifth (4,959) and Oliver ninth (4,444).
Â
The Hornets will see most of their points come from the sprints and jumps at the meet. The men's team has five athletes ranked among the top eight in their respective events in the sprints and an additional four in the jumps.
Nathan Rider tops the sprinters with a league-leading time of 21.09 (altitude-adjusted) in the 200. That mark came in the team's last meet at the Don Kirby Elite and set the school record.
Gianni Miles is fourth in the 60 (6.75) while
Tim Edwards, Jr. (47.72) and
Curtis Reagor (48.01) are fourth and seventh in the 400.
Myles McFarland enters the meet seeded fifth in the 60-hurdles with a best of 8.02.
Â
The women's team has been dominant in the 60-hurdles all season.
Ava Fitzgerald has held the top in the Big Sky all season after running an altitude-adjusted 8.37 at the Silver State Invitational back in December. Fitzgerald is the defending conference champion in the event winning last season in Flagstaff in 8.41. Her top threat will likely come from her own teammate as
Syniah Beverley is second in the Big Sky this season with an altitude-adjusted time of 8.41.
Â
The only other member of the women's team in the top eight of the Big Sky heading into the meet is freshman
S'niyah Cade who is eighth in the 200 at 24.19. However, Sacramento State has several other threats, including
Jessi Barry who finished second a year ago after running a career-best 7.44.
Breija Stredic also scored for the team last year in the 400 with a seventh-place showing.
Â
As expected with the success of its sprinters, both team are ranked in the upper third of the Big Sky in the 4x400 relays. The men are currently ranked third while the women are fourth.
Â
In the jumps, Eli Katreider and
Quentin Mitchell own the top two heights in the Big Sky this season. Kaltreider cleared 6-11.00 at the UW Invite while Mitchell is a quarter-inch behind him with his successful attempt at 6-10.75 at the Wolf Pack Classic.
Â
The team also boasts two of the top six triple jumpers.
Jamar Andrews, Jr. is third in the conference with a best of 50-06.75 and
Kellan Quinley sixth at 48-02.75. Both set their season bests at the Don Kirby Elite in their most recent action. Quinley earned all-Big Sky honors a year ago after placing third in the event.
Â
Indiana Davis tops a list of four Hornet women in contention in the high jump. The freshman is third in the Big Sky with a best of 5-07.25 this year. Weber, Barry and
Chandler Miller all have cleared 5-05.25.
Â
R'kai Davis is fifth in the Big Sky in the triple jump as the senior produced a mark of 40-03.25 at the Silver State Invitational to begin the year.
Â
Sacramento State will attempt to take a couple of points in the distance races and throwing events.
Cooper Love and
Logan Borg are the top threats for the team in the 800 while
Ryan Martin and
Brandon Moreno will tackle the longer races for the men.
Emmanuel Akutey will be the lone thrower for the men's team.
Â
On the women's side,
Dominique Abbott and
Lilly Escorcia are both among the top 20 in the Big Sky in the 800.
Sophia Dudley leads the Hornets in the mile while
Anna Harmon (3K) and
Marina Lipary (5K) have both moved into the school top 10 during the year in the long races.
Hope Gordon and
Galadriel Mellion will both compete in the shot put and weight throw.
