KALTREIDER, MCFARLAND WIN EVENT TITLES DURING OPENING DAY OF UW INVITE

Pair were part of five school top 10s

SEATTLE — The first day of the UW Invite/Mile City meets resulted in five school top 10s and a pair of individual event titles at Dempsey Indoor on the campus of Washington. The majority of the events took place on Friday with Saturday set to host a series of mile races throughout the day.
 
Men's Track Highlights
  • Starting a busy weekend for the distance runners, Ryan Martin ran the second-fastest 3K in Sacramento State history. Martin crossed in 8:19.89 to become the second Hornet to break 8:20 all-time.
  • Myles McFarland earned his first event title as a Hornet as he finished in first place in the 60-hurdles. McFarland started the day with a time of 8.21 in the qualifying round before lowering his time to 8.15 to win the race by .01 seconds. Brock Gross added a sixth-place finish in the event with a PR of 8.45.
  • Tim Edwards, Jr. finished in second place in the 200 and third in the 400. Edwards' time of 47.97 in the 400 was the fifth-fastest all-time at Sacramento State and took 1.22 seconds off his previous season best.
 
Women's Track Highlights
  • Jayla Cigar-Dingle had the top finish for the women as she took fifth place in the 200. The sophomore set a season best in the process, running 25.01.
 
Men's Field Highlights
  • Eli Kaltreider claimed victory in the high jump after clearing 6-11.00 for his indoor career best. The sophomore entered the competition at 6-05.00 but need all three attempts to clear his next bar. He made quick work at 6-09 and 6-11 before bowing out after three attempts at 7-00.25.
  • Quentin Mitchell, Kyree Marshall and Cole Oliver finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Mitchell cleared 6-09.00 to set his PR and tie for seventh in the program history. Marshall was successful at 6-05.00 and Oliver had a best of 6-03.25.
 
Women's Field Highlights
  • Galadriel Mellion placed fourth in the meet with a best of 46-05.25 on her first of six attempts. Mellion also moved into eighth place in school history and now owns the best mark by a Hornet since 2022.
