REAGOR WINS 400 TO LEAD TRACK & FIELD AT SPOKANE INDOOR CLASSIC

Teams tally nine top-five finishes during the day

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Sacramento State track and field teams completed the second day of competition this weekend at the Spokane Indoor Challenge on Saturday at The Podium. The Hornets picked up an individual event title as well as two school top 10s during its first weekend of the new year.
 
Sacramento State will next competed at the UW Invite & Mile City in Seattle on Jan. 30-31.
 
MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • Curtis Reagor finished first in the 400 with a time of 48.01 which ranks fifth in school history. The time took 1.32 seconds off his previous career indoor best and was the fastest by a Hornet since Alec Foster ran 47.60 in 2018.
  • Nathan Rider was second in the event and set a career best in 48.40. That effort places him 10th in Sacramento State history.
  • Myles McFarland was second in the 60-hurdles after running 8.16 in the finals. McFarland ran 8.15 in the qualifying round and now has five races of 8.16 or better this season.
  • Blake Gross placed seventh in the 60H with a PR of 8.54 in the finals. His twin brother, Brock Gross, also set a PR in 8.88.
  • Xavier Bruce followed his standout performances on Friday by placing fifth in the 60 meter dash in 6.93.
WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jessi Barry ran 7.61 in the qualifying round of the 60 and added a time of 7.66 in the finals to place sixth in the event.
  • Jayla Cigar-Dingle and Jaylin Hunter were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400. Cigar-Dingle ran 57.78 while Hunter crossed in 57.83.
  • A day after winning the 400, Breija Stredic was seventh in the 200 behind a time of 25.20 in her first race at that distance this season.
  • Syniah Beverley had the fifth-fastest time (8.89) in the qualifying round of the 60-hurdles but did not compete in the finals.
MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Emmanuel Akutey had a significant PR on his way to a third-place finish in the shot put. Akutey had a best of 50-08.00 on his second attempt of the day. That distance blew away his previous PR of 47-02.25.
  • The Hornets had three of the top six finishers in the long jump. Jamar Andrews, Jr., finished second with a long of 22-05.00. Blake Gross was fourth and Brock Gross sixth with both setting PRs. Blake finished with a best of 21-07.50 while Brock jumped 20-09.25.
WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Merle Weber placed fifth in the long jump with a best of 17-08.00.
  • Galadriel Mellion set a season best with a shot put of 45-09.00 to finish in fourth place.
