MEN SET SIX SCHOOL TOP 10S AT SPOKANE SPORTS SHOWCASE

Stredic, Andrews win individual event titles

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Sacramento State track and field teams recorded 14 top-five finishes and set six school top 10 marks at the Spokane Sports Showcase on Friday at The Podium.
 
The Hornets will have a quick return to action at the Spokane Indoor Challenge which begins with a handful of events on Friday evening and the majority of the action on Saturday.
 
Men's Track Highlights
  • Xavier Bruce finished in fourth place in the 60 and sixth in the 200 whole setting school top 10s in both events. Bruce opened the day with a time of 6.89 in the 60 prelims and took .03 seconds off that time to finish fourth in the finals. That time took a half-tenth off his previous career best and moved him into a tie for 10th place in school history. He ended the day by placing sixth in the 200 in 21.83 which also tied for 10th in the Hornet record book.
  • Myles McFarland had the highest finish for the men's team in the running events as he placed third in the 60-hurdles in 8.02 seconds. McFarland is now sixth in school history and lowered his PR by .05 seconds.
  • Ryan Martin ran the fourth-fastest indoor mile by a Sacramento State athlete as he finished in 4:10.03 to place sixth in the event on Friday. His time took nearly four seconds of his previous best and was the second best by a Hornet since 2013.
  • Brock Gross finished in fourth place in the 400 in 49.97.
  • Logan Borg ran 1:21.54 to place fourth in the 600.
 
Women's Track Highlights
  • Breija Stredic recorded the lone event win for the team in the running events as she won the 400 in 57.63.
  • Dakota Gibson placed fifth in the 1000 after running 3:04.20.
 
Men's Field Highlights
  • Jamar Andrews, Jr., won the triple jump and moved into third place in school history in the event. Andrews' best of 50-06.75 came on his second attempt of the competition and made him the only competitor in the field to surpass 50-feet during the day. Andrews opened the year with a triple jump of 50-04.75. His effort is the best by a Hornet since Jah Strange set the school record of 51-03.50 in 2018.
  • Eli Kaltreider led a trio of Sacramento State men in the top five of the high jump. Kaltreider took second place with a best of 6-08.75 which tied his indoor career best which ranks eighth in program history. Quinten Mitchell jumped 6-04.75 to place fourth while Cole Oliver was fifth at 6-02.75.
