WOMEN'S GOLF TO START WYOMING COWGIRL CLASSIC ON WEDNESDAY

Hornets return after winning tournament in 2024

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team will look to continue its historic success at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic when it competes on Apr. 2-3 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes GC in Maricopa, Ariz. The tournament will have 36 holes on Wednesday followed by a single round on Thursday. Live scoring can be found by selection the link on this page.

The Hornets have been victorious the last three times they have played at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, winning the event in 2018, 2023 and 2024. In fact, Sacramento State has held the lead following all nine rounds of those three tournaments.

This year's event will be the final tune-up for the team before it looks to defend it's title at the Big Sky Championships on Apr. 14-16 in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

Team Notes
  • Sacramento State is currently ranked 53rd in the latest Clippd standings. That mark, however, does not take into account the team's most recent performance at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii where it finished second out of 17 teams.
  • The Hornets were led by Sneha Sharan (t6th) and Caitlin Maurice (t9th). The team had a different low scorer in all three rounds with Sharan shooting 69 in the opening round, Tova Hatton with a 66 in the second round and Florencia Dufey a 71 in the final round.
  • The only change to this week's lineup is Hatton returns to the starting five while Dufey will play as an individual.

The Last TIme at the Cowgirl Classic
Sacramento State was once again victorious in Arizona, earning a win at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic last spring. The Hornets shot 280-289-291-860 and held the lead following all three rounds of the tournament. During the final round, the Hornets were able to hold off Long Beach State which made up six strokes and pulled within two strokes late in the day. Sneha Sharan had the lowest score for the team in the third round, posting a 71 to finish at 1-under par. Sharan tied for fourth in the tournament at 72-70-71-213 along with teammate Caitlin Maurice.
