WOMEN'S GOLF TO FACE NATIONAL POWERS IN GOLFWEEK RED SKY CLASSIC

Hornets compete for first time since winning opening tournament

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Following team and individual victories to start the season, the Sacramento State women's golf team will head to the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (formerly Golfweek Conference Challenge). The three-day tournament will be Monday-Wednesday at Red Sky Ranch and Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.

The Hornets won the Branch Law Firm/Dick Maguire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., to start the season. As a team, Sacramento State was three-shots better than the rest of the field while Ella Kraft was the medalist by three strokes. Kraft, who picked up her first collegiate victory, was joined in the top 10 by Tova Hatton (t-5th) and Darla May Dela Torre (10th). All three return to the lineup this week and will be joined by freshmen Sophia Lee and Jocelyn Tseng.

Sacramento State first competed at the Golfweek tournament in 2010 and then again in 2017, 2018 and 2019 before returning last year. This year's field includes five schools from Power Four conferences including USC (8th), LSU (12th), Arizona (19th) and Kansas (21st) who all ended last season in the top 25.

The Last Time at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic
Caitlin Maurice shot 65-70-73-208 to finish in third place and set her career 54-hole best. Her efforts helped the Hornets finish in fourth place out of the 16 teams in the field. Maurice's score as well as the Hornets' team score were the best in program history at the tournament. Dela Torre and Hatton made their collegiate debuts at last year's tournament and each finished in the top 30. Dela Torre totaled 74-72-70-216 to tie for 18th while Hatton had rounds of 74-71-74-219 as an individual to tie for 29th.
