SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Sacramento State played three matches on its second and final day of the Big West Challenge, hosted by Cal Poly.

The Hornets opened the day with a matchup against 8th-ranked Long Beach, falling 5-0. The duo of Mia Guevara/Victoria Marthaler (No. 4) dropped a close three setter, falling just short 21-16, 11-21, 13-15.

In their second match of the day, the Hornets faced 17th-ranked Hawaii, falling 4-1.

The pair of Ashlynn Archer/Ellie Tisko (No. 2) took down the Rainbow Wahine in three sets, 21-17, 18-21, 16-14.

Caitlin Volkmann/Bridgette Smith (No. 1) played a tight three-set match, falling just short, 17-15, in the third set.

The duo of Guevara/Marthaler also pushed Hawaii to three sets, dropping the third set by just three points, 15-12.

In the third and final match of the day, the Hornets faced rival UC Davis, dropping a close matchup, 4-1.

Against the Aggies, Volkmann/Smith were dominant, taking the match in straight sets, 21-18, 21-13.

The pair of Greta Davis/Karlie Spohn (No. 3) took the Aggies to three sets, dropping the third, 15-11.

Guevara/Marthaler also pushed the Aggies to a third set - the pair's fourth three-set match of the weekend, but came up short, 15-11, in the third set.

Of the six teams the Hornets faced over the weekend, three were nationally ranked, including 6th-ranked and tournament host Cal Poly.

The Hornets will not be back in action again until hosting a two day tournament April 4-5 at Hornet Beach. Sacramento State will face Pacific, Santa Clara, UC Davis, and Saint Mary's. The tournament will mark the Hornets' final home matches of the season.
