BERKELEY, Calif. -- Sacramento State took down San Francisco 3-2, but fell to host Cal, 5-0, on the second day of the Battle of the Bay tournament.

The pairs of Victoria Marthaler/Mia Guevara (No. 4) and Bridgette Smith/Caitlin Volkmann (No. 1) both won in straight sets, 21-15, 21-11 and 21-19, 21-13, respectively.

Ashlynn Archer/Ellie Tisko (No. 2) won in three sets, battling through a long third set to clinch the win, 22-20, 16-21, and 23-21.

The duo of Greta Davis/Karlie Spohn (No. 3) pushed USF to a third set, but came up just short in the final set, finishing with scores of 13-21, 21-14, 13-15.

The highlight from the match against Cal came from the duo of Archer/Tisko, who took the Bears to three sets, dropping the third by just three points, 15-12.

The Hornets will play their first home matches of the season next Saturday at the Hornet Beach Bash tournament.

Sacramento State will play Saturday against both Pacific (10 a.m.) and San Jose State (2 p.m.).
