RENO, Nev. — Tamia Ramos tied the school record in the women's long jump and
Ava Fitzgerald was one-hundredth of a second shy of tying the school record in the 60-hurdles to highlight the Sacramento State performances at the Wolf Pack Classic on Friday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
Â
Ramos jumped 20-00.50 (6.11 meters) to tie the school record which was held by Shanita Bryant with her effort in 2001. Bryant went on to win the Big Sky Conference indoor and outdoor titles that same season. Ramos topped her PR with jumps of 19-04.75 and 19-06.75 in the qualifying round. Her best attempt of the day came on her sixth and final jump. Prior to the day, Ramos had never jumped longer that 19-02.50.
Â
Fitzgerald entered the day with a season best of 8.55 seconds in the 60-hurdles and a career best of 8.49. She opened her day with a time of 8.44 in the qualifying round and then dropped her time to 8.38 to finish in second place in the finals. Her time is the fastest by a Hornet since Sakya Bolton ran 8.37 on Feb. 24, 2012.
Â
Jessi Barry continued the big day for the Sacramento State women's team as they ran 7.52 in the finals of the 60-meter dash. Barry's time matched their mark from last season's Riverfront Invitational and is tied for the second-fastest in program history.
Â
The Hornets also had three PRs in the field events by the women.
Audrey McElmurry long jumped 17-08.75 for a 1.75-inch improvement.
Skye Camacho also had a huge PR with a leap of 16-05.25 to shatter her previous best of 15-09.50. In the weight throw, Mai Gordon had a best of 42-00.50 for a 28.5-inch improvement.
Â
In the men's races,
Xavier Bruce was again just shy of breaking into the top 10. Bruce ran 6.93 in the 60-meter dash and was .06 seconds out of the school record book.
Jameel McDaniels (7.05) and
Isaiah King (7.13) each added PRs in the event.
Â
A week after running the seventh-fastest 5K by a Hornet,
Aiden Maddison set a PR in the mile behind a time of 4:26.44. That mark was 3.40 seconds faster than his previous best.
Â
Mason Mitchell had the best finish in any event for the men, placing fifth in the long jump with a best of 23-02.00.
Kyle Smith made his indoor debut and placed seventh with a weight throw of 48-04.50.
George Stansell had a weight throw of 42-09.00 and
Kellan Quinley a long jump of 20-07.25 to set personal bests.
Â
The meet will continue on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
