SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jessica Schilz, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, has committed to continue her academic and athletic career with the Sacramento State women's tennis team beginning with the 2026-27 season, Head Coach Sophie Breault announced.
"We are super excited to welcome Jess to our Hornet family," Breault said. "She is a strong all-court player with a very competitive and driven mindset. She will bring great depth and energy to our team and help us compete for championships as we move to The Big West."
Schilz, who currently attends the Herschel Girls School in Cape Town, is a Trio Tennis Junior Masters U18 champion in 2025, claiming the title of the prestigious event in straight sets in September after being one of the top eight invitees in her age group to compete for the title.
Among her accomplishments, she is a four-time titlist on the Super 8 Junior Tennis Series, has won a pair of International Tennis Federation singles titles — winning a J30 tournament in Namibia in April of 2025 and another in her home country in November of 2024 — and is a two-time runner up in doubles, while also making the South African U17 team twice.
She also represented her country at the Region 5 African Youth Games on South Africa's U20 team, winning a silver medal in individual singles play and claiming a gold medal as part of the winning team at the games.
