TRACK & FIELD OPENS SEASON WITH THREE SCHOOL TOP 10S IN SPOKANE

Miles Grant wins high jump with best indoor jump by a Hornet in 45 years

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Sacramento State track and field teams opened the 2025 indoor season with three school top 10s, five top-five finishes and numerous personal bests at the Spokane Sports Showcase on Friday at The Podium.

The Hornets return to action later tonight with the start of the Spokane Indoor Challenge. Friday's action will consist of the men's high jump and weight throw as well as the men's 5K and men's and women's DMR. The rest of the meet will begin on Saturday morning.

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Miles Grant finished first in the men's high jump with a clearance at 7-02.50. Grant passed at the opening three heights and then had successful first attempts at his next four bars. He needed just two attempts to clear 7-01.50 and 7-02.50 before bowing out of the competition with a narrow miss at 7-03.50. His mark places him in a three-way tie for the best in NCAA Div. I this season and makes him one of only 12 individuals to clear seven feet during the 2025 indoor season. Grant's mark easily surpassed his previous indoor best of 6-09.75 and moved him into second place in school history only behind Joe Radan's effort at 7-03.75 in 1979.
  • True freshman Eli Kaltreider had a strong start to his collegiate career, clearing 6-08.25 to finish in eighth place and move into 10th place in school history.
  • Junior Kellan Quinley made his Sacramento State debut and placed fourth in the triple jump. The JC transfer uncorked a jump of 47-03.00 on his final attempt. That effort was 2-feet, 5.5-inches beyond his previous best of the day.
  • Other top eight finishers for the men included Joshua Braun who was sixth in the triple jump (44-01.50) and Mason Mitchell who was eighth in the long jump (22-05.75).

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chandler Miller placed sixth in the high jump and missed moving into the school top 10 by a half inch. Miller had a clearance at 5-05.75 to set her indoor career best.

  • Abby Sheets set a PR in the shot put and placed sixth in the event. Sheets' long of 41-10.75 came on her third put of the competition. Hope Gordon was one spot back of Sheets in the standings with a best of 40-01.25.
