TRACK & FIELD UNVEILS 2024 SIGNING CLASS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams will welcome 19 student-athletes as part of the 2024 recruiting class, it was announced today. The incoming Hornets will aid the team in nearly every event comprised of nine sprinters, two distance runners, four jumpers and four throwers.
 
"With this class we are improving in every event area," Sacramento State Director of Track & Field Kenny McDaniel said. I like the diversity, the quality and the overall  skill set each individual will bring to our program." 
 
The class will bring a wealth of success as 12 members have experience at their state high school championships and another has won a California junior college title. Eighteen of the 20 student-athletes hail from California with the other two coming from Texas and Nevada.
 

SPRINTS

Women
Syniah Beverley (Sacramento, Calif./Christian Brothers HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Christian Brothers HS in Sacramento, Calif.
  • Advanced to the California State Championships in the 100-hurdles and the 4x100 relay as a senior.
  • Placed 16th in the 100-hurdles at the state meet.
  • Set her PR with a time of 14.42 at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet where she finished in third place.
  • Ran the second leg of the 4x100 relay team which placed 12th at the state meet.
  • Team won the Capital Athletic League, Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III and Sac-Joaquin Section Masters titles.
  • Also played flag football for the Falcons where she was named all-metro and helped the team to the section championship.
  • Attended Inderkum HS for her first two years.
  • Ran 46.51 in the 300-hurdles as a sophomore for her PR.
 
Tristian Campbell (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Klein Collins HS in Spring, Texas.
  • Placed fifth at the 2024 UIL 6A Region II championships in the 400 as a senior.
  • Ran 55.20 during the year to set her personal best and ranked ninth in the UIL among 2024 graduates.
  • Fastest 200 was 24.63.
 
Jayla Cigar-Dingle (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy)
  • A 2024 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood, Calif.
  • Qualified for the 2024 California State Championships in the 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
  • Placed eighth in the 100 and ninth in the 200 at the Southern Section Masters meet as a senior.
  • Was second in both events at the Del Rey League Finals that same season.
  • Set career bests during the year in both events running 11.83 in the 100 and 24.06 in the 200.
  • Placed second in the 400 and was third in the 200 at the Southern Section Div. IV finals as a sophomore.
  • Ran 55.53 in the 400 as a junior.
  • As a freshman she was third in the 200 and fourth in the 100 at the same meet.
 
Jaiden Hill (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS)
  • Attended Mt. SAC JC in Walnut, Calif.
  • Was the 3C2A state champion in the 400 as a freshman.
  • Ran personal bests of 23.99 in the 200 and 54.43 in the 400 that season.
  • Graduated from Walnut HS in 2021.
  • Was the Hacienda League champion in the 100 and 200 as a senior.
 
Men
Andrew Abello (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS)
  • Graduated from Folsom HS in 2024.
  • Competed at the 2024 CIF State Championships as a member of the 4x400 relay team.
  • Ran the second leg for the 4x400 team which won the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I title and finished second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet.
  • Recorded PRs at the Sacramento State High School Classic after running 22.95 in the 200 and 50.76 in the 400.
 
Ian Anglin (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS)
  • Graduated from Folsom HS in 2024.
  • Qualified for the CIF State Championships in the 400 as a senior.
  • Finished first at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet in 2024 after running 48.52 to set his PR.
  • Also was the Sierra Foothill League champion that same season.
  • Ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400 relay team which finished in second place at the section masters and was 16th at the CIF State Championships.
 
Kanye Martin (Granada Hills, Calif./Granada Hills HS)
  • Graduated from Granada Hills HS in 2024.
  • Anchored the 4x100 relay team which won the California State Championship as a junior.
  • Team ran 40.39 which was the third-fastest time in the nation.
  • Posted a PR of 11.06 in the 100 at the Maurice Greene Invitational in 2023.
  • Fastest 200 was 21.80 at the same meet the following season.
  • Played running back, linebacker and defensive back in football.
 
Truedell Minnieweather, Jr. (Vallejo, Calif./Benicia HS)
  • Graduated from Benicia HS in 2024.
  • Qualified for the California State Championships in the 200 and as part of the 4x400 relay as a senior.
  • Finished in third place in the 200 and was sixth in the 100 at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions in 2024.
  • Ran 10.69 in the 100 at the Tri-Valley Area Championships as a senior to set his PR.
  • Fastest 200 was 21.77 as a junior at the Diablo-Foothill League Championships.
  • That season, he was sixth in the 100 and seventh in the 200 at the North Coast Section finals.
 
Ife Orekoya (Los Angeles, Calif./Westlake HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Westlake HS in Westlake Village, Calif.
  • Placed sixth in the 400 and eighth in the 200 at the Southern Section Finals during his senior season.
  • Ran 10.76 in the 100 and 21.62 in the 200 as a junior to set his PRs.
 

DISTANCE

Men
Logan Borg (Monterrey, Calif./Foothill HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Foothill HS in Palo Cedro, Calif.
  • Qualified for the California State Championships in the 400 as a junior and senior.
  • Reached the state meet as a member of the 4x400 relay team during his junior season.
  • Was the Northern Section champion in the 400 as a senior after running 48.81 to set his PR and also won the title as a junior.
  • Finished in first place in the 400 in seven meets, including the Eastern Athletic League and Northern Section Div. I championships.
  • Placed second at the league meet in the 800 during his final two seasons.
  • Ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay team which won the Northern Section and EAL titles in 2023.
  • Other PRs include 23.14 in the 200 and 1:53.71 in the 800.
 
Saul Orozco (Distance, Santa Ana, Calif./JSerra HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
  • Placed 11th at the 2023 California State Div. IV Cross Country Championships.
  • Finished in fifth place at the South Section Div. IV finals that same season.
  • Fastest 5K time was 15:31.5 at the state meet.
  • Completed three miles in 14:37.0 at the section championships.
  • Began his high school career at Segerstrom HS where he was the Golden West League cross country champion as a junior.
  • Ran races ranging from 800 to 3200 meters during his high school track career.
  • Set PRs in the 1600 (4:20.51) and 3200 (9:27.74) as a senior.
 
JUMPS
Men
Michael Cherry (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont HS)
  • Graduated from Rosemont HS in 2024.
  • Was the Sierra Valley Conference champion in the high jump and triple jump as a senior.
  • Placed first in the long jump in six meets and was the top finisher in the triple jump in eighth meets during the year.
  • Best long jump was 23-01.00.
  • Also ran on the school's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
  • As a junior, he was the SVC champion in the triple jump and finished first in the at the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. IV-V finals.
  • Was coached at Rosemont HS by Sacramento State record holder in the long jump and NCAA All-American Brandon Parker
 
Blake DaQuino (Campbell, Calif./Westmont HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Westmont HS in Campbell, Calif.
  • Primarily competed in the high jump, pole vault, shot put and discus throughout his high school career.
  • Advanced to the state championships in the discus as a junior, recording a throw of 157-08 for a season best.
  • Was the Bay Valley Athletic League champion that season and was third at the Central Coast Section finals.
  • Best mark in the high jump was 5-08.00 as a sophomore.
  • Top pole vault was 12-05.50 during his senior season.
  • Set PRs in the shot put (44-08) and discus (161-10) as a senior.
 
Eli Kaltreider (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Edison HS in Huntington Beach, Calif.
  • Placed fourth in the triple jump at the Southern Section Finals during his senior season.
  • Recorded a PR of 45-01.75 at that meet.
  • Was the Surf League champion in the triple jump and finished second in the long jump that same season.
  • Top long jump was 21-10.00 during his final year.
  • As a junior, he was the Surf League champion in the high jump and was second in the long and triple jumps.
  • Cleared 6-05.00 in the high jump at the Arcadia Invitational in 2023.
 
Preston Nunn (Jumps, Tracy, Calif./Kimball HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Kimball HS in Tracy, Calif.
  • Was the Valley Oak League champion in the high jump as a senior.
  • Set his PR with a clearance of 6-02.00 during the 2024 season.
  • Placed sixth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III finals and was eighth at the section masters meet.
  • Competed in the long and triple jumps during his career.
 
 

THROWS

Women
Jordan Bailey (Sparks, Nev./Reed HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Reed HS in Sparks, Nev.
  • Placed second at the Nevada state championships in the shot put as a senior.
  • Was the NIAA Northern 5 A Region in the shot put in 2024.
  • Finished in first place at the Carson League Meet in the shot behind a PR of 40-08 and was second in the discus.
  • Best discus throw was 94-11 at the Throws at The Ranch Invitational.
  • As a junior, placed fourth at the state championships in the discus.
 
Mai Ricks (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS)
  • A 2024 graduate of Long Beach Poly HS.
  • Placed third in the shot put at the California State Championships as a junior and was seventh as a senior.
  • Finished in first place in five meets in the shot put and four meets in the discus during final season.
  • Was third in the shot put at the Southern Section Masters Meet as a senior and fifth as a junior.
  • Longest put was 42-10.50 as a senior.
  • Best discus throw was 137-06.
 
Men
Aidan Cornthwaite (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS)
  • Graduated from Valhalla HS in El Cajon, Calif., in 2024.
  • Finished sixth at the San Diego Section Div. II Championships and advanced to the section masters meet in the shot put as a senior.
  • Set his PR in the event at the Div. II meet with a best of 45-09.50.
  • Top discus throw was 153-07.
 
George Stansell (Palmdale, Calif./Canyon HS)
  • Graduated from Canyon HS in Canyon Country, Calif.
  • Qualified for the California State Championships in the discus as a senior.
  • Was the Foothill League champion in the shot put and discus as a junior and senior.
  • Finished in first place in the discus in 11 meets during his final season.
  • Claimed the top spot in shot put in nine meets.
  • Top marks were 168-07 in the discus and 54-00 in the shot put.
