MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS IDAHO TRANSFER EJ NEAL

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State head coach David Patrick announced today that guard EJ Neal will transfer from Idaho to play his senior season with the Hornets. The guard will enroll as a senior this summer.

Neal, a Bay Area native who began his collegiate career at City College of San Francisco, played against the Hornets three times last season while at Idaho.

Patrick quote - "EJ is a huge addition to our program. His experience and success in the Big Sky is a vital component. EJ will make an impact on both sides of the ball at the guard position, and we are excited he is coming back to California."

• A 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard from San Francisco
• Played his junior season (2023-24) at Idaho, and two seasons (2021-23) at City College of San Francisco
• At Idaho, he played three games against the Hornets - two during the regular season and one Big Sky Tournament game
• When fully recovered from injury at Idaho, during his final 10 games of the season, he averaged 10.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 44% FG (35-80), 40% 3FG (17-43) and 79% (22-28) FT
• During those 10 games, his 10.9 ppg average was second highest on the team
• Scored a game-high 15 points in Idaho's win over the Hornets at the Nest on Feb. 5
• Finished the season averaging 5.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game
• At City College of San Francisco, he was two-time first team all-Coast North (2022, 2023), two-time first team all-defense (2022, 2023), Coast North Defensive Player of the Year (2023), State Championship All-Tournament team (2023), all-freshman team (2022) and first-team all-NorCal (2023)
• Averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists (41% 3PT shooter) as a sophomore for a CCSF squad that went 29-4 with a runner-up finish at the CCCAA State Championship
• Started 18 games as a freshman where he helped the team to a 32-1 record and CCCAA state title after averaging 7.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists
• Drew over 100 charges during his two seasons with the Rams
• Played three seasons of basketball at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Francisco, and one season at Balboa High School in San Francisco
• Two-time second team all-West Catholic Athletic League selection while playing at Sacred Heart Cathedral
