MEN'S HOOPS WELCOMES PORTLAND STATE TO THE NEST FOR SATURDAY MATINEE

GAME PREVIEW

• Two games remain in the regular season, and both will take place in The Nest. Sacramento State (7-22, 3-13) will play the first of those two home games on Saturday vs. Portland State (16-13, 7-9) at 2 p.m.
• The regular season concludes on Monday with a game vs. Eastern Washington.
• The Hornets are coming off a 66-63 road win at Montana State, in which the Hornets led for nearly 38 minutes of clock, and hung on late despite a Bobcat comeback effort.
• That win snapped an 11-game losing streak, which was the program's longest since the 2008-09 team dropped 14 straight. It also snapped a 10-game road losing streak.
• Of those 11 games during the losing streak, eight came by single digits.
• Of the Hornets' 16 Big Sky Conference games, 12 have been decided by single digits.
• Sacramento State was a couple bounces away from sweeping the Montana road trip, as the Hornets fell to the Griz in Missoula by a 68-61 score last Thursday.
• The Hornets are assured of playing in the No. 9 vs No. 10 seed game in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament in Boise on Saturday, March 9, at 4:30 p.m. PT. The single elimination tournament will take place March 9-13 at Idaho Central Arena in Boise.
• Sacramento State is 5-7 at home, but has dropped five straight in The Nest. The Hornets are 2-5 in conference play at home, which includes two-point wins over Weber State and Idaho State. The Hornets' last home win was 66-64 vs. Idaho State on Jan. 13.
• Sacramento State has gone decidedly young. The team is routinely starting two freshmen. In addition, four freshmen and a sophomore are routinely in the team's rotation.
• Saturday will mark the end of Portland State's three-game road trip, which began with a pair of single digit losses to the Montana schools last week.
• The Vikings are 5-10 on the road, but 1-7 vs. Big Sky schools. Portland State has lost seven straight on the road since their last road win at Idaho (77-72) on Dec. 30.
• The Hornets lost to the Viks in Portland (58-51) on Feb. 3. PSU had a big second half, which included a game-closing 28-15 run. The Hornets led for 23 minutes of game clock.
• Sacramento State is 22-35 all-time against Portland State, including a 16-12 record at home. The two teams have played 14 straight games decided by 11 points or less. The Hornets swept the season series over the Vikings last season.
• The Hornets are in the second season of the David Patrick era. Last year's squad finished 14-18 overall and 7-11 in the Big Sky Conference. The 14 wins were the most by a first-year head coach during the Hornets' Div. I era (1991-pres.), and third most in program history.
• Sacramento State is currently wearing black patches on the left shoulder of their home white jerseys in honor of Robert "Money" Martin who passed away in late November. Martin played for the Hornets from 1985-89, and remains the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,774 career points. That includes a program-record 294 made 3-pointers.
