SEATTLE -- Sacramento State concluded ITA Northwest Regional play on Sunday at the Seattle Tennis Club. The six-day tournament, which began Thursday, featured each of the 13 schools in the Northwest Region.

The Hornets competed five players at the event, with all five playing in the singles draw, and four in the doubles draw.

Four of the Hornets' singles players won at least one match, and two advanced to the tournament's main draw. The qualifying round took place on Thursday, while the main draw began Friday.

Of the Hornets' five players at the tournament, four are brand new to the program. That included Nick Bowles, who posted a 3-1 record at the event, advancing to the main draw's Round of 32. The true freshman from Japan defeated opponents from Washington, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's in straight sets, before eventually falling in three sets to Cal's Alex Chang (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).

Henry Lamchinniah, a transfer from Southern Miss, was slotted into the main draw where he defeated Washington's Rohan Belday in three sets before falling to Oregon's Vlad Breazu in the Round of 32.

Gur Libal and Hayden Rand also won singles matches, defeating opponents from Portland State. Libal fell in the qualifying Round of 32 in three sets to Cal's Bernardo Munk Mesa. Overall, the Hornets' five players combined to post six singles wins at the event.

In doubles, the teams of Libal/Bowles, and Rand/Lamchinniah both went 1-1, which included victories over Saint Mary's and Portland State, respectively.

"Our guys played well, and showed a lot of improvement between our tournament in Davis (three weeks ago) and the Regional," Sacramento State head coach Kevin Kurtz said. "They have been working hard in practice, and looked more comfortable on the court. I'm proud of their effort, and excited about this team."

The Hornets wrap up fall tournament play Nov. 1-3 in Stockton when they compete at the Pacific Invitational. The spring season begins Jan. 16 at Santa Clara.
