PALM DESERT, Calif. — Riley Bell holds a two-stroke lead and the Sacramento State men's golf team is in fifth place after the first day of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at Classic Club on Wednesday.

Bell matched his career best with a 5-under par round of 67 during the day and leads Utah's Javier Barcos and Fresno State's Joseph Lloyd by two strokes. Bell opened the round on the sixth hole and parred his first six holes. A birdie on the par-3 12th was followed by five more pars to make him 1-under through 12 holes. Bell then birdied his next five holes to get to 6-under before his only bogey of the day which came on his final hole.

Jeffrey Perry ranked second on the team and is tied for 12th overall with an even par round of 72. Perry started his round with a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole but found himself at 1-over following bogeys on the par-4 12th and 17th. After six consecutive pars, he ended with a birdie on the par-3 sixth to return to even.

Casey Leebrick contributed a round of 74 and is tied for 28th. Leebrick was 3-over through his first three holes but played his final 15 holes at 1-under. During that stretch, he had four birdies and three bogeys.

The team also counted a 78 from Coleman Dupre who had two bogeys and two double bogeys along with 14 pars during his round.

Fresno State built a three-stroke lead in the team standings. The Bulldogs were 2-under par as a team and are followed by Colorado. Utah and Wyoming are tied for third at 290 with the Hornets one stroke back in fifth.
