MEN’S TENNIS’ MATE VOROS NAMED BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State's Mate Voros has been named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping lead the Hornets to a 4-0 record last week. The four victories came over a six-day span.

The junior went 2-0 in singles play, and 3-0 in doubles. One of those singles wins came against a nationally ranked opponent from Pacific, and he combined to lose just four games over two matches. He played at No. 1 in the doubles lineup in all three of his victories, and at Nos. 1 and 2 in his singles wins.

In Sunday's 4-1 win over Pacific, the Koszeg, Hungary, native beat 120th-ranked Ran Amar in quick fashion (6-0, 6-4). In that same match, he teamed with Mark Keki to win their doubles match, 6-3, and help the Hornets earn the doubles point. The win snapped the Hornets' seven-match losing streak against Pacific, and marked the first victory over the Tigers since 2008.

His other singles win came against an opponent from Holy Names at the No. 1 spot by a score of 6-0, 3-0, ret. In his three doubles matches, he combined to lose just three games. He teamed with Jan Silva to beat a duo from Holy Names, 6-0, and teamed with Keki to beat a team from American River College, 6-0.

Voros, who was a first team all-Big Sky selection in doubles a year ago, is currently 3-2 in singles this season, and 5-0 in doubles. Dating back to last season, Voros/Keki are a combined 25-1 in spring doubles matches.

The Hornets (5-2) are back in action this Saturday when they host Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. That will complete a five-match homestand.
