WOMEN'S TENNIS BOLSTERS ROSTER WITH TRANSFER FROM EAST TENNESSEE STATE

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State head women's tennis coach Sophie Breault announced Wednesday that East Tennessee State's Mayya Gorbunova has signed a grant-in-aid agreement to continue her athletic and academic career with the Hornets.

Gorbunova becomes the second student-athlete to join the Sacramento State roster this spring, joining incoming freshman Lou Baudouin of France who signed a National Letter of Intent back on March 25.

"We are happy to add Mayya to our roster," Breault said. "She is a hard worker that will add depth to our team. She is a consistent player with great doubles skills. Her competitiveness and experience playing for a nationally ranked team will help us compete for championships."

Originally from Moscow, Russia, Gorbunova has won 16 doubles matches during her two seasons combined with the Bucs alongside various partners, finishing 7-12 at the No. 1 spot as a freshman in 2021, and ending the 2022 campaign with a 9-10 mark overall — including nine of those wins at the No. 2 position for ETSU — en route to All-Southern Conference second team honors at that spot in the lineup after finishing 5-2 against conference rivals.

She also has a pair of singles wins in limited action at the No. 5 spot and, during the fall, finished a combined 13-3 in singles and 11-3 in doubles combined during her two seasons, including wins over players from Memphis, Columbia, and Clemson.

Outside of collegiate competition, she holds seven ITF juniors titles in doubles and reached the finals of one J4 singles event and the semifinals of another J3 tournament. She has been ranked as high as No. 266 in the ITF junior rankings and a high UTR rating of 10.66 in her career.
