SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The debut of the Sacramento State outdoor track and field team will come this weekend with the Hornets compete at the Aggie Opener at UC Davis. The meet will start with the men's and women's hammer throw on Friday while the rest of the events will take place on Saturday at Toomey Field.

Sacramento State most recently competed at the Big Sky Indoor Championships on Feb. 26 in Pocatello, Idaho. The team's last outdoor meet was the 2021 Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah on May 14-15.

Along with Sacramento State and host UC Davis, the meet will also include San Francisco, Utah Valley, Nevada, Chico State, William Jessup, San Francisco State as well as several Northern California junior colleges. Saturday's meet schedule begins with the women's javelin at 9 a.m. The first running event will be the women's 3K at 10:45 a.m.

The Hornets will be represented by 25 women and 21 men at the Aggie Opener. The majority of the student-athletes will be entered in multiple individual events. Freshman Eliana Coburn will have the busiest day on the team as she's entered in the 100-hurdles, long jump, triple jump and javelin. Five men and four women will compete in three events with the majority of that group entered int he shot put, discus and hammer.
