SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Host Sacramento State clinched the doubles point to gain the early advantage, while Alexis Johnson and Maddy Ferreros each claimed straight-set singles victories, but visiting CSUN was able to outlast the Hornets for a 4-3 victory on Thursday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts on campus.

The home side got off to a strong start as the tandem of Paige Alter and Shauna Casey won at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, to even things up before Ferreros and Johnson teamed up to clinch the doubles point with a 7-6 (5) victory over the Matadors' Magdalena Hedrzak and Sasha Turchak for the 1-0 lead in the match.

Johnson then made it 2-0 in favor of the Hornets with her fourth consecutive victory, winning in straight sets at No. 5  over Victoria Santibanez Luna by the scores of, 6-2, 6-3. Three of Johnson's last four wins have come at the No. 5 spot in the lineup, while all four have come in straight sets.

The Matadors tied the score at two apiece with wins at No. 6 and No. 2 before Ferreros came through with a win at the top spot, defeating Ekaterina Repina, 6-1, 7-5, to regain the lead for Sacramento State.

CSUN answered with a three-set win at No. 4, sending all eyes to the No. 3 singles match where Alter bounced back from an opening set loss to even things up with a 7-6 (5) in the second against Ana Fraile Taboso. The two then went back-and-forth in the third before Fraile Taboso clinched the match with a 6-4 victory.

Sacramento State closes out the weekend at home on Saturday (Feb. 26) at noon, hosting Santa Clara at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts.
