GAME PREVIEW
• Sacramento State (3-4) will play its fourth straight game away from home when they travel to the Bay Area for a matchup with Santa Clara (6-2) on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off at the Leavey Center is set for 2 p.m.
• Last week, the Hornets played three neutral site games in a span of five days, two of which were played in Oahu. Sacramento State dropped each of those games, the most recent a double overtime loss to Southern Utah on Saturday.
• Saturday will end a run of six consecutive days without a game as the Hornets got some much-needed rest this week. Saturday will also end a stretch that will see Sacramento State play seven of its first eight games of the season away from its home floor.
• The Hornets will finally get back to the Nest for a pair of games next week.
• Santa Clara, which won in overtime against Wyoming in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, has won three straight games and four of the last five.
• Saturday will begin a remarkable stretch of nine straight home games for the Broncos. In fact, all nine games Santa Clara plays during the month of December will be at home.
• Sacramento State will be looking for its first-ever win against Santa Clara. The Hornets are 0-7 vs. the Broncos, including an 0-5 mark when playing in Santa Clara.
• The last game between the teams - Dec. 14, 2019 - was a 60-58 Bronco win in Santa Clara. In that game, the Hornet endured a scoring drought in the second half of nearly 11 minutes, and Brandon Davis missed a 10-foot runner at the buzzer that would have forced OT.
• The Hornets are 2-1 when playing on an opponent's home floor, which included a loss to then 7th-ranked UCLA, and wins at UC San Diego and Denver. That remains Denver's only loss of the season as they are 6-1 heading into a Thursday game at Houston Christian.
• Santa Clara is 3-0 on the home floor, including wins over Eastern Washington (84-72), Georgia Southern (78-62) and Menlo (64-51).
• The Hornets have already played teams from the Pac-12, Big West, Summit and Western Athletic conferences. Saturday, the Hornets can add West Coast Conference to that list.
• Newly annointed head coach
David Patrick won his first Sacramento State road game at UC San Diego, and first home game against UC Merced.
• On Saturday, the Hornets will face one of the best rebounding teams in the nation (13th in the country, +10.7 boards per game). They will also face one of the best players in the WCC in sophomore guard Brandin Podziemski who is averaging team highs in points (19.8 ppg, 2nd in the WCC) and rebounds (10.0 rpg, 2nd in the WCC). The scoring average is the 31st best mark in the country.
