SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State head women's tennis coach Sophie Breault announced Tuesday that Reese Walker has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career with the Hornets.
"We are excited to welcome Reese to our program," Breault said. "Reese has a well-balanced game and is a fierce competitor. She has an aggressive game style and likes to dictate points with her forehand. Her strong doubles play will have an immediate impact on the team while her experience playing at high-level international tournaments will help us compete for championships."
Walker joins the Sacramento State program from Houston, Texas, where she is a four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net. She ranked as high as No. 39 in the nation and No. 11 in the state of Texas according to the service, while standing No. 467 in the ITF Junior Rankings, reaching as high as No. 418 in the latter.
She most recently reached the round of 16 at the J3 Zapopan / Atlas Colomos ITF Junior Cup in Mexico and gained the quarterfinals at a pair of J4 tournaments in the Dominican Republic, defeating opponents from the Czech Republic and Columbia before falling to the No. 5 seed in the first tournament and posting a pair of straight-set victories over opponents from Peru and Great Britain before falling to the No. 12 seed who went on to win the championship.
Walker claimed three singles titles and reached the semifinals of a fourth tournament in the span of a little more than a month from Aug. 1 to Sept. 5, emerging victorious at the J5 Managua / Torneo Junior Doubletree Managua and the J5 Managua / Sport Slam Junior events on back-to-back weekends in Nicaragua, then winning the J5 Honduras Bowl a little less than a month later.
In between, she earned the top seed and reached the semifinals of the J5 Canal de Panama Bowl, falling to the eventual tournament champion. In June, Walker added a semifinal appearance at a J4 tournament in Guatemala and reached the finals the next week at the J5 event.
