SAN DIEGO — The Sacramento State women's tennis team opened its 2022 season with a 6-1 loss at San Diego State on Friday afternoon. The Hornets were paced by Paige Alter who recorded a victory at No. 5 and also had Best Lee push her match at No. 4 to three sets.

The Aztecs captured the doubles point with wins at the top two spots in the ladder. The tandem of Bunywai Thamchaiwat and Tamara Arnold won 6-0 at No. 1 before Nnena Nadozie and Alicia Melosch edged Weronika Ejsmont and Megan Tagaloa, 7-5, at No. 2. The Hornet pairing of Maddy Ferreros and Lee held a 6-5 lead when doubles play was stopped.

Alter earned the team's singles point with a 6-2, 7-6 (7) win over Julia Jordan at No. 5. Dating back to last season, Alter has now won four of her last five singles matches.

Lee took the first set off Cécile Morin but was topped in three sets at No. 4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The remainder of the matches were decided in straight sets.

The Hornets will continue their San Diego swing on Saturday with a match at UC San Diego at noon.
