SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Throughout the summer, the Sacramento State Athletics department will take a look back and honor the student-athletes who have made the biggest impact on their sport over the last 10 years.
The announcements will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week, and the sports will be announced in alphabetical order. Timeline is below.
To be eligible for an all-decade team, a student-athlete must have played at least one year in their sport between the 2010-11 and 2019-20 academic years.
Today, the department is announcing the men's cross country all-decade team.
Reesey Byers (2010-13)
Competed in 27 meets during his career and led the Hornets 18 times…won the Hornet Jamboree in 2012 and 2013…owns the second-best finish by a Hornet male at the NCAA West Regional as he was 24th in 2013…also ranks fourth in program history by placing 42nd at the NCAA West Regional in 2012…accounts for the three fastest times all-time by a Hornet at an NCAA Regional (10K), including a school record 30:21.5 in 2013…led the team in two meets as a freshman…was the fastest on the team in three meets as a sophomore and was second among Hornets in three other meets…had the best time on the team in all six meets as a senior.
Ran in 19 meets during his four seasons with the team and led the team in eight of those meets…paced the Hornets at the 2017 and 2019 Big Sky Championships…his 8K time of 25:50.9 from 2017 ranks as the 14th best all-time by a Hornet at the conference meet…owns the sixth and seventh fastest 10K times at an NCAA West Regional in school history after running 31:13.6 in 2019 and 31:15.6 in 2017…missed the majority of his junior season because of injury.
Mark Frazier (2011-12)
Joined Sacramento State in the fall of 2011 after running for City College of San Francisco for two seasons where he was the state steeplechase champion…led the Hornets in a pair of meets during his junior season…paced the team at the 2011 Big Sky Championships where he finished in 18th place…as a senior, he led the team at the Big Sky Championships and ranked second among Hornets at the NCAA West Regional…his time of 31:20.9 at the NCAA West Regional currently ranks eighth in school history.
Jacob Huston (2013-15)
Came to Sacramento State after two years at American River College…after redshirting 2013, he led the team in 11 of his 13 meets over the next two years…finished first at the Mustang Challenge in 2013 by completing the 8K race in 25:45.9…also finished second at the Aggie Open that same season…as a senior, he won the Aggie Open and had top 10 showings at the Capital Cross Challenge and Fresno State Invitational…ranks 10th in school history.
Sandoval competed for the team only during the 2018 season but made an impact…he led the Hornets in all but one of the meets in which he competed and had four top 20 finishes during the season…began his Sacramento State career by placing third at the Fresno State Cross Country Invitational…placed 14th at the Big Sky Championships which was the best on the team during the decade…ran 24:17.6 at the meet for the fastest time by a Hornet at the conference meet…also finished 14th at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational and was 17th at the Capital Cross Challenge.
Cole Younger (2009-13)
After redshirting during his first season with the team, Younger competed in 24 races over the next four seasons…led the team in four meets and was second among Hornets in several others, including the 2011 Big Sky Championships…his 10K time of 31:55.4 at the 2012 NCAA West Regional was the sixth fastest all-time by a Sacramento State runner at an NCAA Regional and currently places him 19th.
