SPIETH'S 3 RBIs AND MAIN'S COMPLETE GAME LEAD SOFTBALL TO 4-3 WIN OVER UC DAVIS

Box Score

SACRAMENTO -- Mo Spieth finished with two hits and three RBIs, Jensen Main threw a complete game, and Aliyah Robles made an unbelievable throw from right field to highlight Sacramento State's 4-3 win over UC Davis on Wednesday afternoon at Shea Stadium.

Today marked the 103rd meeting between the two rivals, and Sacramento State improved to 65-38 against the Aggies. More importantly, the Hornets have now won four straight games while improving their season record to 10-6. That includes 5-1 at home. UC Davis saw its record fall to 7-8 this year.

Main scattered eight hits over seven innings while allowing three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts. She stranded nine UC Davis runners on base as the Aggies left at least one runner aboard in all seven innings. UC Davis mounted a big threat in the seventh inning when it got runners to first and second with nobody out. Riley Siegel then hit a fly ball to medium deep right field that freshman Aliyah Robles caught and fired a missile to third base to nab Alyssa Ito trying to advance. Main got the next batter out, and the Hornets were victorious for the 10th time this season.

Spieth reached base in all three plate appearances, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk, run scored and three RBIs. All three RBIs came with two outs, including two-run single in the third inning and an RBI-double in the fifth. That double gave the Hornets a 4-2 lead and proved to be a huge insurance run as the Aggies got a run back in the sixth to cut their deficit to 4-3.

Spieth played a factor in all four runs as she scored all the way from first base on an Alondra Mejia RBI-double in the second inning. The Aggies scored the game's first run in the top of the first, but the Hornets tied things at 1-1 in the second, and took the lead at 3-1 in the third. Sacramento State never trailed the rest of the way.

Main improved to 5-3 with the win while Katie Kibby (3-4) picked up the loss after lasting three innings. Spieth was the only Hornet with a multiple-hit game as Haley Hanson, Charizma Guzman, Samantha Parish and Mejia also had hits. Guzman stretched her hitting streak to five games while Hanson has a four-game streak.

Sacramento State returns to action on Friday for the first day of the Capital Classic at Shea Stadium. The Hornets will play five times during the three-day event, beginning with Friday games vs. Utah State (11:30 a.m.) and Texas State (2 p.m.).
