RENO, Nev. — Pepperdine hit .325 with just 11 errors in 120 attacks on the way to a three-set victory (25-22, 25-16, 26-24) over Sacramento State in the second round of the Wolf Pack Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Virginia Street Gym.

The Hornets (9-6 overall) are now 1-1 at the three-day event, which includes a four-set victory over tournament host Nevada last night. Sacramento State had its six-match winning streak come to an end, a run that also included wins over UC Davis, Bowling Green, Northern Kentucky, Seattle and San Francisco.

Sacramento State will wrap up tournament play tomorrow against Missouri at 10 a.m. The Hornets are now 8-5 away from home, including 5-3 on neutral floors and 3-2 on an opponent's home court.

Pepperdine's hitting percentage was the second highest mark by a Hornet opponent all season. The Waves had 50 kills with just 11 errors in 120 total attacks. That included a second set in which Pepperdine hit .531. Sacramento State is now 1-6 when allowing an opponent to hit .200 or better, and 7-0 when limiting the opposition to a sub .200 mark.

The two teams combined for just 26 errors in 244 attacks as Sacramento State hit .234 with just 15 miscues in 124 swings. The Waves posted better marks than the Hornets in kills (50-44), hitting percentage (.325-.234), assists (47-41), digs (56-53) and team blocks (11.0-6.0).

Eight of Pepperdine's blocks came in a third set that saw them come back from a 22-18 deficit. In fact, each of Pepperdine's final five points of the set came via block. Sacramento State did save a match point at 24-23 before back-to-back Wave blocks ended things.

For the Hornets, Mikaela Nocetti led the way with 16 kills, 12 digs and a .375 hitting percentage. She was joined in double-figure kills by Lana Brown (10 kills, 6 blocks, .389 hit%) and Shannon Boyle (10 kills, 12 digs). Sarah Davis added five blocks and setter Kennedy Kurtz had three kills, 34 assists and eight digs. Libero Brigitte Murdock had 11 digs and Skyler Takeda added eight digs. Hannah Meadows, who played in every set of the Hornets' first 10 matches, missed her third straight match with injury.

The Hornets' two aces came from Kurtz and Boyle.

For Pepperdine, middle blocker Jasmine Gross was unstoppable, finishing with 15 kills, four blocks and a .577 hitting percentage. She committed zero errors in 26 swings. Hannah Frohling added 13 kills as the pair combined for 28 of the Waves' 50 kills.
