SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State freshman Jah Strange placed fifth in the triple jump at the USATF Junior Championships on Saturday at Hornet Stadium.
Strange opened the competition with a leap of 48-07.50 which was the second best mark in the field through the opening three rounds. After a pair of fouls, he increased his distance on his fifth attempt with a mark of 49-01.50. Strange concluded the competition by jumping 49-08.50 on his final attempt.
Isaiah Griffith of Nebraska won the competition by jumping 53-02.25. Cal State Northridge's Dennis Hicks placed second at 50-01.25.
The event concluded an eventful freshman season for Strange. Along with qualifying for the USATF Junior Championships, he earned all-Big Sky Conference honors by placing third, qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary and recorded the second best triple jump indoor and the fourth best outdoor in school history.
