SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium will serve as the host venue for the 2017 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships from June 22-25. The meet will include both the Junior and Senior Championships and will feature several of Olympic gold medal winners.
Tickets for the meet as well as an updated schedule and meet information can be accessed through the Sacramento Sports Commission website.
Hornet Stadium has served as the site for several high-caliber meets. The venue hosted the US Olympic Trials in 2000 and 2004 as well as the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 and the USATF Outdoor Championships in 2014. For a deeper look at Sacramento's history with track & field click HERE.
Sacramento State will be represented in the meet by freshman Jah Strange who will compete in the junior men's triple jump on Saturday, June 24, at 3:50 p.m. Strange recently completed his freshman season where he had a best of 50-feet, 4-inches at the Big Sky Championships which placed him third at the meet and moved him into fourth on the Sacramento State record list.
Two other athletes with Hornet connections will compete in the senior portion of the meet. Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Brown Trafton, who has served as the director of operations and a volunteer coach at Sacramento State, has come out of retirement to take part in the women's discus. Current Director of Operations Dominque Jackson will run in the women's 800.
